How To Date Your Fred Bear Bow

Since we have the opportunity to sell a lot of different items through our eBay Drop Off Store, certain things start to stick out that seem to sell extremely well. One item that sticks out are the vintage BEAR Recurve Bows.
Recently on an out of town trip we stopped by an antique store like we usually do and saw this recurve bow in the corner. Since we were already somewhat familiar with how well bows have sold from selling them for a client we naturally gravitated to it. It looked to be in excellent condition and came with a quiver and 3 different sets of arrows. The asking price was $100.00 and we ultimately got all of it for $75.00.
Based on the dating procedures listed below we determined that this was a Fred Bear Kodiak Recurve bow from 1965 in excellent condition. It was a 60″ bow with a 44# pull.
After we got the bow to our store we noticed that inside the big quiver was a smaller single quiver. Based on a light embossed marking on this smaller, leather quiver that we pulled out we were able to date it to the late 1940′s.
We decided to break this up into 3 different auctions and started all three at $9.99. The results of the auctions are listed at the end of this article.

DATING YOUR FRED BEAR BOW
There are several features and changes that were made to the bear bows over the years that will help narrow the age of your bow or your potential investment.
1. The Serial Number: These bows usually have, what appears to be a hand inscription on one of the limbs that gives a serial number along with the length and pull weight of the bow. This serial number works very well for dating Bear Bows from 1965-1969 when the first digit of the serial number is the year of manufacture.
For example, a serial number of 5L212 would be a 1965 Bow.
Prior to 1965, the serial numbers for all Bear bows were started over every month, making these bows almost impossible to date by serial number alone. The “K” series of serial numbers (for example KZ9672) were started in 1970.
2. Patent Mark: Most of the BEAR Bows we have sold have the logo and the US Patents printed on it along with the date of CANADA 1953. This date that is printed on all bows made between 1953 and 1972 is simply the date of the patent for a working recurve limb and has nothing to do with the actual model year.
3. Decals & Silkscreening: In 1948 the small Running Bear decal was first and then was replaced by the large Standing Bear decal in mid-1953. The large Standing Bear decal also has the words “Glass Powered Bow” under the Standing Bear.
The large Standing Bear decal was used until 1955 when it was replaced with silk-screening the identification on the bows. By 1956 the silk-screening appeared on all bows.
4. All Wood vs Laminate: If your bow is ALL wood (no laminations of any kind) then your bow had to be made before the mass productions beginning in 1949.
If the ALL wood bow has a stamp that reads “Bear Products” in some form it would have been made before the early to mid 40′s.
If it is stamped “Bear Archery” it would have been made AFTER the early-mid 40′s and BEFORE 1949.
Also wooden bows with a small “Running Bear” decal can be dated to 1948
5. The Leather Grip: ALL Bear bows had leather grips until 1959. In 1959, the Kodiak Special removed the leather grip and in 1961 the Kodiak did the same, as well as the Grizzly in 1964.
6. The Coin Medallion: Beginning in 1959 all Bear bows had a coin medallion of one type of metal or another. Below are the approx date ranges for the type of coin used.
Copper Coin – 1959
Aluminum – 1960-1961
Pewter – 1962
Brass – 1963 – 1970
Nickel-Silver – 1971-1972
ALL coins were flush with the wood until 1972. In late 1972 the coin was raised above the surface of the bow and came in both gold and chrome covered plastic and are still used in Bear bows today.
7. Manufacturer Location: in 1978 Bear moved all manufacturing and offices to Gainesville, Florida. If your bow shows Gainesville on it then it was made after 1978
8. Model Of The Bow: Check the Model of the bow. Below is a yearly production chart for the most popular Bear Bows.
Wood Handle Take-Down 1969-1972
Wood C-Riser Victor Custom 1973-1975

Tigercat 1964-1978
Bearcat 1964-1971
Black Bear 1972-1978
Little Bear 1965-1978
With this information you should be able to get really close to dating your Bear Bow if not pin-pointing it to the year.
If you are looking to price your bow I would suggest first logging into your ebay account and do a Completed Auction Search on the general keywords that match your bow, i.e. Bear Grizzly Recurve and see what has sold in the past 30 days.
—————————————————–
Our eBay Results: Within 6 hours of listing our 1965 Bear Bow by itself starting at $9.99 it had already reached $152.50 which was exciting but based on our research not surprising. What was surprising was that it stayed at $152.50 for the next 6 days. On the last day with 8 minutes left it was up to $182.50 with over 40 watchers. Usually on these types of auctions we tend to refresh and refresh and refresh the auction all the way to the end to watch the bidding but we got busy writing more listings and forgot. When we did remember to go back and check the auction it was over and had ended at $282.55
The other 2 auctions for the quivers and arrows sold for a total of $80.00. So our initial $75.00 Investment at an antique store ended in $362.55 in sales. That was almost a $300.00 profit (minus gas and eBay fees of course).
Top 10 Secrets on How to Turn a Man On
Don’t worry ladies these ten secrets will not embarrass you or make you uncomfortable if you’re shy. Once you realize that men, no matter how “manly” they may seem, enjoy being pampered and have a soft side you will be well on your way to discovering the simple secrets that can really turn a man on.
1. The first secret is all about you and how you present yourself. Men like women who have self respect. If you show up for a date with all your goodies on display that will certainly turn on a man however, your date may not last as long as you’d like.
Dress sexy but leave something to the imagination. Give him something to think about and look forward to during the date. Showing a little cleavage or a little leg will allow for the tension to build throughout the date.
2. The casual playful touch, the gentle stroke of your hand across his cheek, touch his arm when you laugh at his jokes, lean in close so he can feel your breath on his neck and face and eye contact can be very powerful often times the eyes speak a lot more words.
3. A confident woman who is independent and enjoys taking care of herself is a huge turn on for most men. Gone were those days women need a man for every little thing. A confident, self supporting woman who marches to her own beat is what men are looking for, not a weak little insecure porcelain doll that needs to be lead around by the hand.
4. Attractive women come in all sizes and shapes not every woman looks like she just stepped off the cover a magazine. However, if a woman makes the effort to look her best and feels good about her it shows and that is indeed a turn on to a man.
5. An adventurous and spontaneous woman who is not afraid to try new things or tread where few women dare to go is a woman worth pursuing. Adventure and spontaneity keep a relationship alive and going strong.
6. Talk dirty to me baby! Is a wish every man wants fulfilled? Men do it all the time, take a lesson, lean in close and whisper those “naughty” words in his ear and watch his expression. This works best in a public place it not only turns a man on it creates a sense of excitement and danger of getting caught.
7. A woman who can express her sexual desires through spoken words alone has the ability to turn on any man. The more descriptive you can be with what you want from him the better.
8. The scent of a woman is also a very powerful tool. So ladies choose your perfume wisely you don’t want to smell like a cheap hooker nor do you want to smell like your laundry detergent, choose a few nice light but memorable scents.
9. A sense of humor is a must. A man loves a woman who has a little wit and doesn’t turn three shades of red when she hears a dirty joke. If you can tell a dirty joke all the better!
10. Cliché or not a man is always turned on by a woman who can be herself. You’re one in a million; don’t try to be someone else!
These ten secrets will definitely work to turn a man on every time.
How To Zero A Rifle Scope

You’ve just got yourself a new rifle scope, fitted it and let me guess…for some reason your shots are landing nowhere near the crosshairs?
Sadly there’s more to rifle scope sharp shooting than just plonking the scope on the rifle and forever after shooting like an SAS sniper! You have to “zero” it.
Think about it. It’s like a bike wheel. If you tighten the bolts wrong, too much on one side for example, it spins wrong and rubs the brake pads. It’s the same with a Rifle scope. If it’s not set up correctly it will be offline and even at short air rifle, airsoft and paintball ranges this is going to throw your accuracy right off. At longer ranges you’ll miss by a mile (well figuratively anyway!)
What Does “Zero a scope” mean?
Zeroing a sight or scope means getting the crosshair in position so that when you shoot. Ground zero if you like. The point of impact. There’s a lot of discussion amongst shooters on the best way to zero a scope or sight. What I’ve written below is what I’ve been sending out to my ebay scope buyers for the last year or so and received a lot of good comments back about it so I know it’s OK!
How to Zero a Rifle Scope
First of all you need to set a firm foundation by fitting the scope mounts well.
Put the scope mounts on the rifle first with the top brackets removed.
Tighten them into place using 1/2 turns at the time so that they sit solid and level as best as is possible, i.e., the downward pressure is as equal as possible. At this stage don’t tighten them fully as you might want to slide them up and down a little.
Now take scope and place it on top of the open rifle mounts. Make sure the windage and elevation turrets are one up and one to the right (these are the “turrets” on the sight. You use them later to make micro adjustments and in the field adjustments for wind)
Then put the top mount brackets on and tighten – Again use partial turns to tighten up. Don’t tighten fully at this stage, you may yet need to adjust a little.
Zero the scope
Lie in your normal shooting position and check that you can see through the scope well…
The distance between your eye and the rear scope lens is called Eye Relief.
Unlike cartoons you do not use a scope by pressing your eye up against the scope lens!
Once comfortable complete the screwing down of all mounts so that your set up is solid – take care at this stage to keep the final turns partial and one by one to ensure pressure is equal.
Now it’s time to zero the scope for shooting:
Load the rifle
Adopt your standard prone/lie down shooting position. Prone is the best way as if you test shoot from standing or kneeling positions you waver more and it’s harder to do a “true test”.
Put some sort of target in place at say 20 yards – or whatever you think your “standard” range will be.
Using cross hair on target centre – Take 2-3 shots – Where do do they fall in relation to where you want them to? Right, left, up, down – dead on (lucky you!)
2-3 shots is best as it will average out shooter inaccuracy and give you a more “significant” feel for how far or close you are from true zero.
Now it’s time to use the windage and elevation turrets to get it zeroed dead on. These are the 2 turrets on the top and right side of the scope. See my website for pictures.
Models vary, you’ll probably screw a cap off and expose either a coin twist or finger knurled type of dial.
The top turret adjusts up and down. The right one left and right.
If you have your scopes instructions they should have a table with figures to tell you what each click adjustment means in terms of cross hair movement at “x” distance, e.g., 1/8 inch at 100 metres.
Use single click turns and each time take a new shot to gauge where the shot now falls – the dials basically adjust the cross hair position up-down and left-right.
It’s trial and error basically but with testing you’ll get to where you need to be and be able to trust that your shots will go where it says they will! This may take some time and a lot of shots. Be patient!
Find the Free Auto Repair Manual You Need Online

You can easily get a free auto repair manual for whichever repair need you might have. You need an internet access and have to follow a certain procedure searching for auto repair manuals, but when you have done this procedure a few times it will be very easy to find the right instructions for do it yourself auto repair and it won’t cost you a dime.
There are four types of automotive description documents that you will need to choose from when you want to do a repair;
General manuals
Diagnosis descriptions
Repair manuals
Maintenance manuals
General Manuals
In addition to some general manuals, most of these are related to the make. Here you can get step by step guidance on how to repair most of the makes in the vehicle market. Let’s say you have a Honda Acura 2002 model and you want to find a manual for that make and model. What you do is perform the following search in a search engine: “free car manuals+Honda Acura+2002″. Then you will have a long list of sites that provide you with all kinds of descriptions for your Honda Acure 2002 model, and you can choose what you want.
Diagnosis descriptions
Automotive diagnosis manuals can also be sub-divided by make and model. But it can also be divided by the area of the vehicle that is affected, for example engine intake problems, brake problems, cooling problems, exhaust problems, start or stall problems, transmission problems etc. Let’s say you have a start problem. Your search would be “car diagnosis manual+ start problem”, then you should get more than enough repair information to choose from. You can even get diagnostic trees where all options are covered for nothing.
You have probably more than one time heard some annoying noise from somewhere in your vehicle, without finding the source of it. This is one of the most kinky situations to run into because you don’t know if it is a serious signal or just a small thing. Some websites gives you the opportunity to diagnose vehicle problems by the noise, sound and vibrating signals – and that is great. The sooner you find it the sooner you can fix it and then you can relax. When you search, you can describe the sound, for example “whine noise” or “shifter knocks” or “driveline vibration” plus car diagnosis manual plus eventually the make.
Repair Manuals
In addition to regular manuals you can also get very instructive and detailed descriptions in other internet document or websites like articles, etc. The natural way to sub-divide such repairs before searching, is by the area of the vehicle that is going to be repaired, for instance body repair, exhaust repair, suspension fix, interior repair and even general car repair.
You do the search the same way as above; “car repair manual (or description) + the area of repair and go through the list of resources you get.
Maintenance manuals
Though vehicle maintenance is closely related to your vehicle make and model, there are some maintenance issues that are pretty much common whether you have a Cadillac, VW or a Mercedes, for example changing oil, changing air filters, engine wash, fluid maintenance, tier maintenance etc. You can get access to maintenance descriptions by searching for the kind of maintenance plus “car maintenance manual (or description)” plus eventually your make and model.
I think you’ll be amazed of the amount of automotive repair free stuff online.
How to Get a Man to Fall in Love – Get a Man to Love You for Who You Are
Ladies, we all want the fairy tale of a man who loves us and wants to be with us forever, right? Not only that, but we want a good man to fall in love with us for who we are – not what we look like or what he wants us to be. While I’m sure you know you can’t make a man do anything he doesn’t want to, there are some things that make men fall in love. By taking steps to fine tune the aspects of yourself that most men find attractive you can get a man to fall in love with you. Now, obviously not every man has the same taste and not every man will agree with what I write here. However, from talking with many men and asking them what makes them fall in love these are the main points that come up over and over.
Men Fall in Love with Women Who are Confident
It’s true. Most men find confident women sexy and irresistible. Now, there’s a big difference between being egotistical and aggressive and being confident, so make sure not to go overboard. However, putting a little pride in your walk can make men sit up and take notice.
Men Fall in Love with Women Who are Independent
There’s nothing that drives men away faster than a woman who is only focused on his life and his interests or only cares about the relationship. Men like it if you have your own interests that you are passionate about. It shows that you are independent and that you can think for yourself which is a very attractive quality. If you don’t have anything that you are passionate about, by all means go out and find something. Not only can it help you get a man to love you, but it can teach you a lot about yourself and give you a lot of joy when you discover something that you love doing.
Men Fall in Love with Women Who Understand They Need Time to Themselves or with Their Friends
Men value their own independence and don’t like it when women don’t give them space to enjoy things outside of their relationship. Respect a man’s desire to have time alone or to spend time with his friends without making him feel guilty or nagging him about not spending enough time with you. You might even notice that if you give your guy some freedom he will want to spend more time with you instead.
Men Fall in Love with Women Who Care About Them
Men want a woman who is not just their lover, but also their friend. They want to be with someone who genuinely cares about their lives, who listens to them and who can help them when they need it. They want someone who can be their partner in life who doesn’t judge them too harshly for mistakes, who is honest with them and who they can trust.
How to Make Sex Exciting Again
If you are like most people, you will never forget when you first started dating your significant other. You couldn’t keep your hands off one another, and you had sex all day, all night, and every time you could. However, after a certain period of time that wears off and you find yourself taking care of other things such as bills, kids, and jobs. Of course you are still in love, but sex is no longer your number one priority anymore.
That doesn’t have to be the case though. You can still make quality time for each other and have mind blowing sex even if you have been married 20 years. Sex is an incredibly important part of a healthy relationship and without it many marriages fail because you simply lose the spark. Besides the fact that sex can keep a relationship fresh and new, it also relives stress from your everyday life and lets you enjoy the person that you are in love with.
With aging comes another problem besides just not having enough time to have sex. It could be that your libido just isn’t up to par with how it was in your earlier years. Over a certain age your sexual desire simply decreases leaving you thinking about sex less and less often. At this point you may want to consider taking an all-natural female hormone supplement made from herbs that have been used for hundreds of years to get your juices flowing again and add more excitement to your sex life.
With your newly revitalized sexual desire you will enjoy spending more time with your partner and communicating in a way that you may have never done. Changes in relationships happen but it is what you do to keep the communication about it open is what is important, especially when it comes to sex. Talk about what you would like to see happen when you start taking a libido enhancer. Are you looking for just more sex, or sex in new positions or places? With your new libido anything is possible, and together with your loving partner you will start to see sex in a whole new light.
How Body pH Can Affect Your Energy Levels

WHAT MOST PEOPLE DON’T REALIZE; WE ARE BIO ELECTRICAL ENGINES
In order to accomplish all the many millions of complex functions that occur over the course of the day, your body has to be able to communicate with itself… all the way down to the cellular level. And do you know how it does this? Through pulses of electricity. That’s right, electricity.
Your body operates on an electro magnetic current. Believe it or not, all of the organs in your body emit these fields of electrical current. In fact, nerve signals are nothing more than electrical charges.
What creates this electrical power in your body is a very fine balance that exists in your bio chemistry. And of all the systems in your body that depend on this delicate, bio chemical balance, one of the most important is your blood stream. This is where pH comes into play. But what is pH?
WHAT PH IS AND WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO ALL YOUR BODY FUNCTIONS
PH is a scale that measures how acidic or alkaline a substance is. The scale ranges from 1 to 14 with 1 being very acid, 7 neutral and 14 very alkaline.
So what does pH have to do with you and your blood? Well, the pH of your blood is extremely important. The ideal pH level for your blood is right around 7.35 and your body goes to enormous lengths to maintain this level.
Why? Because if your blood pH were to vary 1 or 2 points in either direction, it would change the electrical chemistry in your body, there would be no electrical power and in short order you would drop dead. As you can see, maintaining the right pH level in your blood is pretty important!!
With this in mind a good way to avoid upsetting this delicate bio chemical balance would be to take a look at those things that can compromise the maintenance of the ideal pH level in your body. And what is the main culprit in this case? The answer is the creation of acid in your body.
Before we look at what causes acid, here’s a graphic example to give you an idea of what can happen in the blood when your pH drops to less than ideal. Red blood cells are how oxygen is transported to all the cells in your body.
As red blood cells move into the tiny, little, capillaries, the space they have to move through gets pretty small. In fact, the diameter of the capillaries gets so small that the red blood cells sometimes have to pass through these capillaries one red blood cell at a time!
Because of this, and because it’s important for the red blood cells to be able to flow easily and quickly through your body, they have a mechanism that allows them to remain separate from each other. This mechanism comes in the form of the outside of healthy red blood cells having a negative charge. This causes them to stay apart from each other, sort of like when you try to push the negative ends of two magnets together. They resist each other and stay apart.
Unfortunately, acid interferes with this very important mechanism in a pretty frightening way. Acid actually strips away the negative charge from red blood cells. The result is that your red blood cells then tend to clump together and not flow as easily. This makes it much more difficult for them to flow easily through the bloodstream.
But it also makes it harder for them to move freely through those small capillaries. This means less oxygen gets to your cells. Acid also weakens the red blood cells and they begin to die. And guess what they release into your system when they die? More acid.
I could describe a whole list of processes that occur when your system becomes and remains acid but I think you get the idea. The point is that aside from the acid that is secreted into your stomach to aid digestion, acid in your body is bad. Really bad.
In regard to producing energy in the body, here’s an easy question for you. What do you think happens to a person’s energy level if over time their system becomes more and more acid, their biochemical balance is disrupted and their red blood cells can’t deliver oxygen and nutrients as efficiently to all their cells? The answer is simple. Their energy level drops. Dramatically.
Are you beginning to get the picture here as to the importance of pH in your body? Good. Now let’s take a quick look at what causes acidity in your body and then look at steps you can take to get your body pH back to an ideal level.
WHAT CAUSES ACID IN THE BODY
The primary cause of an acidic condition in your body is from what you put in your mouth. In other words, what you eat and what you drink. And it isn’t how “acid” something may seem when you eat or drink it. It has to do with what is left over when you digest it.
Specifically, does eating or drinking something leave behind an acid or alkaline “ash”. For example, I don’t know about you but I love seafood. Scallops are one of my favorites. However, when your body digests scallops, it leaves an extremely acid ash. In fact, scallops are one of the most acid foods you can eat.
Unfortunately, a lot of the things most people put in their mouths create an acid ash. These include alcohol, coffee and a lot of flesh protein in your diet. Interestingly enough, stress also tends to create an acid condition in the body.
STEPS YOU CAN IMMEDIATELY TAKE TO IMPROVE YOUR PH
Fortunately, it is pretty easy to immediately change your pH for the better and make it more alkaline. The first step is to understand which of the foods you are eating and the drinks you are drinking are acid and which are alkaline. Then it’s simply a matter of eliminating some of the more acid foods you are eating and adding in more alkaline foods.
However, before you start, it’s important to get a baseline of what the pH is in your body so that you can see how you are improving or if you need to continue to eliminate more acid foods and add in more alkaline ones.
You can do this by testing the pH of your saliva on a regular basis. This is really simple to do. More details on how to do this are provided on some web pages I have created for you to help you out. A link to these pages is provided below.
In addition to decreasing the amount of acid foods you eat and increasing the amount of alkaline foods you eat, one of the best ways to immediately begin changing your pH is to drink “green drinks”. You can make these by simply adding a powder that is made up of a whole host of vegetables that are highly alkaline to a glass of water. Information on suggested green drink powders to use is included on pages that I have a link to below.

Clicking on the following link will take you to some pages I created that have more information on alkaline and acid foods, how to test your own pH and what to look for in green drinks.

Start taking the steps described above and you may very well find your energy levels increasing over time. Mine certainly have.

The Remington Varmint Alaskan Ti
Like all incarnations of the Remington 700 model, the Remington Varmint Alaskan TI is a bolt-action rifle. Originally based upon the early 721 and 722 series, it has been consistently developed over the years, and more lately focused on making use of ultra modern technologies to offer it’s owner an extremely high quality piece of kit.
The Remington Varmint range has been long established, the Alaskan TI for sale on the market today comes in a wide range of calibres. The one we where fortunate enough to get our hands on is in.300 WSM form, and we setup the TI with Talley lightweight mounts accompanied by a Leupold VX-III 2.5×8 scope. Both of these have proven field tested reliability and are used in various roles including military and law enforcement. The scope used comes with side focus parallax adjustment for focusing from fifty yards and beyond. Also included with it came stock flip up lense covers and an adjustment wrench. Ammunition used was federal factory with 180-grain Barnes TSX bullets.
The first thing that immediately jumps out at us is the balance of the rifle. The handling is quite frankly, superb. We were used to the feel of the old 700 Remington range, but this latest model certainly took advantage of some subtle, yet noticeable design features. We had no problem working with the rifle and found it to shoot extremely well.
The Remington Alaskan Titanium main feature’s are the light-weight barrel and the titanium receiver, which comes tapped and drill mounted. One criticism of the previous TI’s was that they lacked accuracy when using the Magnum contour barrel, we tested the rifle in both long and short form and found ourselves on target pretty much straight out of the box.
The Remington Varmint Alaskan TI is certainly a lightweight rifle, it weighs in at just six and a quarter pounds when working in long action, and a straight six when in short action. If your target is elk or bear I would recommend going for the 270 or 300 WSM if your looking for short action and a 300 win mag for long. However if you are going all out, choose the three hundred for the short bolt to get the distance and power of that 300 mag. Doing this would certainly get you some serious ballistics and you’ll be able to make use of use of bigger, heavier grained bullets to boot. This model also comes with a thumb safety feature which is mounted to help keep everything safe.
As we examine the Remington model 700 stock, we are comfortable that any short action stock will fit, an important advantage to have whilst out in the field. If we planned to go tactical, and had the money, a McMillian stock would always be a fine choice. The spiral-cut flute is extremely smooth in action and as can be expected, highly resistant to high altitude winter weather conditions.
As with all the Remington Centerfire rifles, everything in the Remington Varmint Alaskan TI range comes with a two year limited warranty which covers defects in the material and the workmanship from the day of purchase. It is no secret that the TI is not the cheapest rifle in the varmint category, but we have found a cracking example of you getting what you pay for. If this is going to be the gift of a lifetime to you, then you are in for a real treat.
